You are your child's first and most important teacher. Parents and guardians are valued partners in Caddo Parish Public Schools, where we believe that successful learning is best achieved through collaborative partnerships. For most people, the term "parental involvement" conjures up images of parents volunteering in the classroom, raising money for new equipment, or leading PTA meetings. Unfortunately, that kind of involvement usually wanes when kids leave elementary school. But parental involvement means so much more -- and it is needed all the way through high school! Students with involved parents and families are more likely to:
- earn higher grades and test scores, and enroll in higher level programs
- be promoted, pass their classes, and earn credits
- attend school regularly
- have better social skills, show improved behavior, and adapt well to school
- graduate and go on to post-secondary education
This is true regardless of parents' socio-economic status, education level, or cultural background.
The responsibility of raising healthy, successful children rests with all of us. We urge you to become an advocate for collaboration between parents and schools and for the type of parental involvement and education that helps parents create supportive learning environments for their children.
